Play for Keeps Created by Francesca Peppiatt Launched in 2006, Stockyards Theatre Projects' "Play for Keeps" continues to fulfill the Stockyards mission to give volume to the voices of women by creating positive, substantial roles in plays for women performers. Participants develop their work in eight (8) workshops, concluding with staged readings open to the public.
In "Play for Keeps," actresses and writers meet every other week (beginning May 12, 2009). They begin by reading well-known works to create a common terminology about play structure, style and character. Then they work on bringing their voice into a dramatic structure and begin to share their work for facilitated group feedback. Stockyards Managing Director Francesca Peppiatt, who created the initiative, facilitates these critique sessions. Participants include actors who have never written, actors who are working on a show for themselves and need somewhere to develop, as well emerging playwrights.
